Giveaway: My Favorite Asian Teas

I never thought anything would come in between me and my morning coffee. I’m a espresso-drinking, black coffee kinda gal (I even have a coffee bean roasting machine at home), but this company, Two Leaves and a Bud has converted me into a tea lover fanatic.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love me my espresso, but my afternoons are reserved just for tea.

I’ve asked them to put together a box of my favorite Asian Teas: Gen Mai Cha, Lapsang Souchong, Jasmine, Green Tea, Gunpowder, Tropical Goji and White Peony Blossom to give away – this will be such a treat for the winner. It’s a huge box of tea which will probably last you for many, many months, even if you drink daily. Value of approx $100 worth of tea!

Organic Silver Needles: Silver needles are a rare white tea from China – they are the least processed of all teas, completely unoxidized and uncured. The result is needle-like buds with silvery hairs on them. The taste is subtle and light, with honeydew melon flavor notes and
floral aromas.

Caffeine: None LIGHT Moderate
Top note: Light floral
Middle Note: Slightly sweet
Finish: Honeydew melon

Organic White Peony: White tea is made from the young, unopened bud of the tea plant, and handled gently to preserve silvery white hairs on the leaves. We think that you’ll sense the care used to harvest this tea in each cuppa’ – it’s smooth taste is matched by a soft flavor you can drink all day.

Caffeine: None LIGHT Moderate
Top note: Smooth
Middle Note: Robust and sweet
Finish: Complex texture

Lapsang Souchong is traditionally smoke-dried over a pinewood fire. As a result, it has a distinctive smoky flavor that does not cover the black tea – instead it complements it, with a rich, dark amber color and a sweet, mellow finish.

Caffeine: None Light MODERATE
Top note: Campfire smoke flavor
Middle Note: Pine tar
Finish: Sweet aftertaste

Organic Gen Mai Cha, or brown rice tea, is fresh green tea prepared with puffs of brown rice. Ours starts with great organic whole leaf sencha (sun-finished green tea) balanced by just enough organic roasted rice to give you that great toasty flavor.

Caffeine: None LIGHT Moderate
Top note: Grassy
Middle Note: Smooth and nutty
Finish: Toasty

Organic Pinhead Gunpowder: Pinhead gunpowder is tea leaves that are withered, steamed, neatly rolled and then dried and polished into small round pellets. The pellets resemble gunpowder, and have a smoky aroma with a woody and nutty flavor that “explodes” when the leaves unfurl in the cup.
Caffeine: None LIGHT Moderate
Top note: Smoky
Middle Note: Woody and slightly nutty
Finish: Earthy and semi sweet

Organic Tamayokucha: There’s a reason this is our best selling green tea – it has a sweet, light flavor you want in a cuppa’ green tea, without being bitter. How do we do it? These whole tea leaves are gently steamed as they dry. Tamayokucha has a beautiful green hue you’ll enjoy seeing in your cup as much as savoring on your tongue.

Caffeine: None LIGHT Moderate
Top note: Smooth
Middle Note: Rich but light
Finish: Complex texture

Jasmine Petal Green If it’s true you taste with your nose as much as with your tongue, the delicate floral fragrance that lingers atop this smooth cup of green tea will be an otherworldly experience. These tea leaves are dried with jasmine flower petals to absorb the flavor. Inhale, then enjoy.

Finish: Light

Tropical Goji Green Tea

We give our traditional Japanese sencha tea leaves a face lift by brewing them with mango pieces and other tropical natural flavors. What results is the sort of tea it’s easy to imagine sipping while dipping your toes in the ocean. And here’s our little secret: we love it iced too.

Caffeine: None LIGHT Moderate
Top note: Tropical fruit
Middle Note: Smooth and rich
Finish: Slightly tangy
