Call for Cookbook Testers!

Wow. After a year of developing recipes, testing, writing, styling and photographing, we’re ready for recipe testing! A couple of years ago, when I asked for help from readers to test recipes from my first book, I think close to 175 people responded enthusiastically and participated — just simply amazing!

This time, instead of 175 testers, I think we’ll go with a less ambitious number, maybe about 20 testers, just to make it a little easier to manage….since….um…..I’m a little late on my deadline eeeeeeeekkkkk!!!! <– that’s me freaking out a little bit.

Adam and Joanne will be helping me manage the process, as we all know my management and organizational skills are quite lacking. Buddha gave me awesome superpowers in cooking, not staying on top of things (hence the missed deadline).

Anyways, the second Steamy Kitchen cookbook will still be all about easy Asian recipes, but new! different! and healthier! than my first cookbook. Our timeline for testing begins now and ends March 20, 2012, so we’ve got a solid 20 days.

While it’s not a paid gig, I can definitely include your name in the book andΒ forever owe you my eternal love and gratitude.

UPDATE: Since posting we have chosen 50 enthusiastic recipe testers and we are excited to get going on those recipes. Β

I would love to be a tester. I love Asian food and would love to be able to a cook more dishes. I am open minded yet able to give suggestions and help without making people hate me. Pick me! Pick me!

I sent an email, not really knowing what to say.
I would love to test/taste (;)) some of the recipes (or all !) from your new cookbook.
I love that you are doing that, because I hate when I cook something from a recipe and it makes something totally different than what was expected.

    Take care

I would love to cook and test your recipes! In return I will give you some good, no-nonsense, constructive feedback – from a cook’s point of view – and also ask my kids and husband to rate the dishes from an audience’s perspective. My husband and I are both very fussy cooks, and we always go the extra mile to find interesting recipes, the best fresh ingredients, and winning flavour combinations. I do asian / fusian cuisine, and my husband does middle eastern / mediteranean. Pick us, we will not disapoint you!

I love Asian food, I could eat it everyday and I have tons of recipe books on how to cook easy Asian, stir fry, Chinese etc. Would love to test out one of your recipes!

YAY Jaden! You are “almost” there! Can’t wait to see your next book. :o)

I would love to test the recipes for your new cookbook, but sadly I have life-threatening shellfish allergies (shrimp, crab and lobster, so I wouldn’t be able to test recipes that include those ingredients. That said, if you need help testing recipes that don’t include shellfish, count me in! πŸ™‚

How fun! I would be interested in being a tester. I find cooking not only something I am passionate about, but a loving gift to family and friends. In today’s world of FAST everything, there is nothing like preparing a beautiful meal and a shared time together at the table.

  13. Natasha

HI! I really really want to help you! I love cooking and now working just preparing lunches, so I have tons of time:) And now when I’m in US I have everything right near me. So if you still interesting I would love to! Just mail me πŸ™‚

I’d love to participate. I’m adventurous, detail oriented and have little experience with Asian recipes though I love many Asian dishes. A nearby Uwajimaya has hundreds of ingredients I can’t wait to use!

I would love to be a taster/tester. I am an avid gourmet cook. Cooking is my passion and if I wasn’t a teacher I would have gone to culinary school.

  16. Mikey

I would love to be a recipe tester for you, being from Asia and living in California has enabled me with many culinary skills thru osmosis, tastes not familiar in American homes, but also spending time working in a Country Club, Yacht Club and Continental restaurant while going thru college has broadened my American palate and I welcome all food from the four corners of the world.

I have a good palate and am considered a very capable cook by my friends.

  17. Veronica

Hello! I know I missed it, but if you might have any additional opportunities to be a taste tester, I would truly love to be considered! I love cooking and experimenting, and most of all – I love learning new flavors and techniques. I am entirely self-taught and inspired by my Russian roots. I am currently a medical student, who runs to the kitchen whenever any free moment arises! πŸ™‚
    Thank you for your consideration!
    Kind wishes,

I know I am late on this but I would absolutely LOVE to be a tester of recipes if you ever need them again. I am a stay at home kitchen nut! lol I am constantly trying recipes I find online. There is nothing more soothing to me than being in the kitchen!! p.s. I am 50 years old and my grandma taught me to cook so I know my way around the kitchen πŸ™‚

Not sure if any taste tester spots are still available, but I would love to participate in it!

I am a novice cook, trying to recreate the Chinese and Vietnamese recipes I grew up with…via memory! Ayah!

  20. Karen

I may be too late but I would love to test some recipes, I lived in Hong Kong and Singapore and love Asian food, as well as being a recipe developer, so well used to testing recipes!
Please do contact me and check out my blog and work if you need an extra recipe tester.

I wish I had seen this earlier. I would have loved to test your recipes. Me being your biggest, weeping while we met fan and all. Congrats on another great cookbook that is sure to fly off the shelves.

  22. Uekiya

Hi, Just found your site and I am too late to apply as a tester. πŸ™ Cookbooks are my most favorite reading books (and trying out new recipes, of course!). Even though you have all the testers you need this time, I would love to have you save my name and email for the next cookbook you need tested. I love your site and can’t wait to start trying out some of your recipes. Guess I will enter your contest also, as my 9 year old computer died several months ago so I really could use a new one. Good luck with your newest cookbook. From what I have seen on your site, it will do amazingly, I am sure.
    Your newest fan,

  23. Charlie

I would love to test cookbooks!!!

I hope I qualify, I live in Canada.

Wouldn’t you just love Canadian opinions too!

I would LOVE to be a recipe tester! I cook every day, and am always trying something different. I love to adapt recipes and have a good deal of exerience and interest in how and why ingredients act as they do.

Food is my life…… I have taken all sorts of cooking lessons (from the CIA to ICE to ethnic chefs) and recently volunteered for an unpaid internship with an artisan baker to brush up on my baking skills.

I am sorry I missed this opportunity, but hopefully you’ll keep me in mind for others, or pass my name along to another author how is looking for assistance.

I live in the Bay Area.

    THanks for your interest,

  25. Paula Azzi

My dream job would be to test cookbooks (easy to follow recipe, simple ingredients, technique, etc..) then have experts come and try the meals and they would give there opinion on the food tasting.

  26. Diana

Argh!! How could I have missed this? Was looking forward to help test again πŸ™ Maybe the next book? πŸ˜›

  27. Ashish - Quick Asian Recipes

I will test these recipes… well after the book is published and out in the market though :). I tried a few recipes from the first book (cheated a bit though – tested a couple of recipes from the Amazon’s book preview) and I absolutely liked them.
