Martha & Marley Spoon Review

We’ve seen a flush of meal kit delivery companies launching recently, from Forage to Hello Fresh. The latest service to emerge is a joint venture between the company who purchased Martha Stewart Omnimedia (of which Martha Stewart is Chief Creative Officer) and Marley Spoon, an ingredient delivery service.

The business model is the same as other meal delivery services, choose from next week’s menu, and have ingredients neatly packaged and ready for prep.

Martha & Marley Spoon was a great experience, with recipes and meals that were suited for my family’s tastes — and recipes that were spot-on.

We tried 2 different dishes, this one was the Skirt Steak with Grilled Romaine and shaved Parmesan. The second meal was Charred Sweet Chicken with Dill Red Potatoes and Green Apples.

We made both meals at the same time, since my brother and parents were coming over for dinner.

The portions were generous, just the right amount of food (we did add to our meal some leftovers from the night before, but even without the leftovers, it was plenty.)

Our favorite was the Charred Sweet Chicken – thigh and drumsticks marinated and then grilled. The next day, the leftover chicken was shredded for a quick salad topping.

What I liked about the service: Picking the meal was fun! We did this as a family and voted. The recipes were fantastic – I’ve always liked Martha Stewart Food Magazine recipes, and these featured on the meal service were in the same spirit of quick and easy. No fuss. Ingredients were super fresh.

What could be improved: More selection of menu items each week. Currently, you can choose from one of five meal ideas each week. If you’re a vegan or vegetarian, that means you really don’t have a choice, there’s just one option for you.
