I just came home from the BlogHer Food conference in San Francisco — a trip which deserves its own post a little later this week, but if you can’t wait to read about my crazy adventure with Ree of The Pioneer Woman and Elise of Simply Recipes, you’ll just have to head over to Ree’s post on our swanky party that we hosted and Bay Area Bites for a recap on the conference.
Oh, now where was I?
(giggle)
I’m so giddy that I can’t sit still!
My book is shipping early via Amazon and Barnes & Noble online!
Which means….
IT’S REAL.
I mean, the cookbook is REAL. Like not just bits and bytes on my computer hard drive. Not just a jpg on my screen.
But a real book that sits on the shelves in a bookstore! That you can actually hold in your hands, flip through the pages and cook from.
Thank you.
Thank you, my friends, for your inspiration, your comments, love and cheerleadership.
Is that a word?
Thank you to the 200 recipe testers, whom I should just call my “board of advisors,” my blog-sistas Elise, Diane (who took this photo of me yesterday at the hotel) and Bee who all served unknowingly as part of the official Steamy Kitchen support group, right next to Jack Daniels! Good Bite and Quaker Instant Oatmeal is sponsoring a stir-a-thon! Okay, not really a stir-a-thon, but they definitely are kickin’ things up a notch by having 12 bloggers compete for a $10,000 prize! The money goes to a favorite charity, and I’ve chosen Heifer International as my charity of choice.

What I love about Heifer is that they don’t just hand out food, but rather they empower people to feed themselves and build a sustainable community. Gifts of goat, duck, water buffalo, chicken and cattle help create sustainable sources of food and income.
And when the mama cows give birth to baby calves….
…..the gift of the baby is passed onto another family or community.
See why I love them so?
$10,000 will buy:

10 water buffalo = plow fields, planting

10 cattle = milk

10,000 chicks = eggs
Soooo…this is where you come in. Quaker’s program is called “Awaken Your Senses” and the winner gets $10,000 to give to their favorite charity. Each of us 12 bloggers told Chef Hottie David our favorite food memory. With that in mind, David then created a custom topping using Quaker Instant Oatmeal.
What’s my favorite memory? Well, you gotta watch and find out!
It’s Friday Favorites…but on Thursday. Because I’m traveling to San Francisco for BlogHer Food tomorrow. I’ll be speaking on a seminar titled “Your Blog is Great…now what? Letting your blog lead the way to new opportunity.” with lovelies Amy Sherman (Cooking with Amy) and Helen Dujardin (Tartelette).
This week’s Friday Favorites is written by Steamy Kitchen intern, Rachael of La Fuji Mama. I sent her off to NYC for a day to take my place at a fun little event with Food Network’s Robin Miller. It’s her first time in NYC — I wonder what kind of trouble she’ll get herself into!??

I have a propensity to collect way too many cookbooks. I can’t say no to a beautiful cookbook. Food & Wine has come up with a solution to my addiction by boiling down the best 25 cookbooks of the year into ONE volume! Food & Wine Best of the Best Cookbook Recipes comes out next week featuring favs from Osteria, Art & Soul of Baking, A16, Secrets of the Red Lantern, At Home with Charlie Trotter, Big Night In, Osteria, 660 Curries and a few more.
It’s a knife! It’s a fork! Nope, it’s a Knork! A Knork is a knife and fork in one. Forget the labor intensive process of eating with utensils in both hands–we love knorks because sometimes you don’t want to bust out a knife (who wants to wash extra dishes!?) Jaden has been using these on television – makes it easier to scoop a bite to eat on-air. Because it’s awkward enough eating with 3 giant video cameras pointing at you…at least the Knork makes the process more elegant.
Have you seen the blog food & style yet? The gorgeous photos alone are worth a visit.
Classic, elegant, beautiful. Take a look at these: Yellow Watermelon Margarita with Chipotle Rim, Okra Shoestring Fries, Green Gazpacho. Many of her recipes include a how-to video that will walk you through the recipe. Viviane is also on Twitter @foodandstyle. I know Jaden has a blog-crush on her!
KEEP GOING! There are 6 more Friday Favorites! [click to continue…]

I know you know my friend Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, right? Of course you know her! Ree one of my fav bloggers – she’s just as genuine, funny and gracious in person as she is on the blog. I’ve even spooned with her.

I can’t believe that I haven’t mentioned Ree’s latest adventure to you before, it’s simply addictive, fun and delicious…a site called Tasty Kitchen. And this is where you can find one of my must-try recipes, a Kickin’ Tequila Shrimp.
I recently made this dish on the Daytime Show and not only was it a massive hit with the host of the show (and me too), practically the entire camera crew came and hovered over the dish after we finished our segment. [click to continue…]

Steamy Kitchen Friday Favorites

1) This week I had some old friends come visit. After spending some time on the requisite farm-y tasks: pulling carrots, communing with chickens, picking blackberries for jam, they convinced me to leave my island for a day to venture out into the big city. So Sunday night, we hopped the ferry to the mainland and hightailed it for Jerry Traunfeld’s SEATTLE RESTAURANT, Poppy. I’ve been cooking out of Traunfeld’s Herbfarm cookbook for the whole summer and have fallen head-over-heels into a serious food-crush, so I couldn’t help but dress up nice and spritz on a little extra L’Instant de ‘Guerlain beforehand. And let me tell you, Jerry did not disappoint. What happens when farm, fisherman and culinary genius collide? Answer: my thali platter. Truly, just the qualicum scallops and pork belly with corn sauce were enough to make me swoon. [click to continue…]
