Julie & Julia: a Hollywood Moment for YOU!

I’m not able to make it to Los Angeles for an exclusive screening of Julie and Julia Movie, but would love to choose one of you to be my correspondent, travel paid for! If you’re free this Thursday, July 9th – watch the video!

About Julie and Julia Movie:

“Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and Julie Powell (Amy Adams) are featured in writer-director Nora Ephron’s adaptation of two bestselling memoirs: Powell’s Julie & Julia and My Life in France, by Julia Child with Alex Prud’homme. Based on two true stories, Julie & Julia intertwines the lives of two women who, though separated by time and space, are both at loose ends…until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.” ~Columbia Pictures

The event takes place on Thursday, July 9th (yes, this Thurs)

  • Exclusive screening of movie at the Arclight Theater on Sunset (movie doesn’t premiere until August…you’re getting a private screening!)
  • Cooking demontration
  • Meet Julie Powell, Susan Spungen and Le Cordon Bleu Celebrity Chef Brian Malarkey at the California School of Culinary Arts, Hollywood
  • Food styling how-to
  • Discussion about Julia Child and movie
  • After this event (closer to the date of premier), there will be opportunities for interviews with the stars of Julie and Julia, movie tickets as giveaways.

So are you free this week? Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • A food blogger to be the Steamy Kitchen correspondent – attend all of the events for that day, take photos, short video clips (optional). Would love for you to grab a couple of fantastic recipes to share from the cooking demonstration.
  • Be a guest blogger on Steamy Kitchen, write a post on your trip and the event!
  • If you’re in Los Angeles, great! No flights necessary. If you’re not in LA, Sony Pictures will take care of your airfare, hotel for 2 nights and car transportation.

Are you available? Please only enter if you’re seriously interested and available. Because if I choose you and then find out you can’t go…I will come over and pour wine on your keyboard. Enter in the comments (don’t email me)

If you don’t want to enter, but just want to comment with something nice like throwing your support for a particular person, go ahead. I’m all ears.

If you have nothing nice to say, go stuff a chicken. A smelly one.

Tell me in 100 words or less, why we should pick YOU! I’m looking for someone with a fun voice, who can take decent photos and can FedEx me a Kogi BBQ taco! <- just kidding. You don’t have to be a chef, professional writer, photographer or anything. Just someone FUN with genuine enthusiasm and love for food.

I’ll email the winner directly Monday evening by 7pm EST. You’ve gotta respond back to me ASAP because we’ve got so little time to coordinate travel!

Update: 7PM THE WINNER HAS BEEN CHOSEN!!

Pick me: If it hadn’t been for Julia, I would have spent my college years eating Tater tots and canned soup.

(And I will seriously overnight you a Kogi taco, properly packed and refrigerated.)

I am not an established food blogger (although I do blog about food) but I am a food lover, wannabe homesteader, and BIG fan of the book Julie and Julia! I can’t wait to see the movie, I would love the chance to cover it for steamy kitchen. You are one of my favorite blogs, and given the opportunity, I would cover this event in the light-hearted spirit which characterizes your blog!

(Either way, I can’t wait to read the coverage of the event!)

oh yeah, and I’m a teacher on summer vacation, so I could definitely go.

Hi! I’m Matt and I write a blog about food called Tasty New England. I love Julia Child, I love Los Angeles, and I love having fun with food on someone else’s dime!

Lucky for me I’m a student with lots of time off and lots of enthusiasm, and going to see Julie and Julia a covering the action for Steamy Kitchen would be crazy exciting. Taking pictures, writing down recipes, seeing the movie, rubbing elbows with all sorts food people – all sounds like a blast to me.

(Sorry if this came through twice, computer is being a bit wonky)

    The Duo Dishes — 7/5/09 @ 3:31 pm

We are right here in the Hollywood vicinity, and this movie was already on the radar to see during the summer! It would be a mighty fine honor to attend in your place. You’d feel like you had actually been there following the review. :) Recipes, photos and opinions-got you! Only question is…would this be an all day event preventing the 9-6′s from attending? :(

As a food writer and photographer, I am obsessed with the great cooks who have influenced the development of the food movement. Julia Child opened up the minds of everyone from great chefs to the home cook who finally stopped cringing at yet another chicken or piece of beef. She made fancy cooking less intimidating as she made public mistakes and laughed as she went along. I would love to have the opportunity to honor her with an article for Steamy Kitchen. Please see my website for information about me and samples of my work.

    Hobson — 7/5/09 @ 3:35 pm

I would love to be your correspondent. Believe it or not, I was just watching old episodes of Jacques and Julia this morning and wondering whether there was any opportunity to go to an early premiere of the film. So here is my pitch – since I already live in LA – we can use Sony’s promise to pay for airfare in reverse, thus allowing me to personally fly (and therefore hand deliver to you) however many Kogi tacos you want.

Now, I may not write a food blog, but ask me to bake a cheesecake, surprise you with a shepherd’s pie or talk about truffles and I’m there! As a recent Human Communication grad (with a minor in journalism) I can connect and detail each moment of this event with expert proclivity. As passionate about people as I am about food, let my wit make you laugh while my touch of southern flare will make y’all smile! Let’s Do This!

    GeoKaren — 7/5/09 @ 3:45 pm

I would absolutely love to attend and be your personal eyes & ears. I love to write and cook even more. I’d also love to add this movie to my foodie movie list up there with Babette’s Feast and Big Night. Ok, I guess you can say that I’m food obsessed but that’s not a bad thing, right?

My favorite ever food special was the one with Julia and Jacques – butter vs healthy – over the top and a scream to watch – oh and I did make the Julia buttery version of the fish!

My blog photos may not look professional but that’s because my camera is crap. If you select me, I promise to run out to Best Buy, tomorrow! Oh and please don’t pour wine on my keyboard but you can pour it into my gaping maw.

While I always knew who Julia was, I didn’t fall in love with her until I read My Life in France. Her perseverance in writing & publishing her book was amazing! I went to the same cooking school she did and share her love of French food & the idea that cooking together is always fun. The workshops & events sound like a dream come true for an amateur food blogger like me. I consult from home in SF so can take off at a moment’s notice!

I worked for Julia Child for 3 years (1996-99) and traveled extensively with her. As you can imagine I heve a lot of wonderful stories to share. I am available all day Thursday, live in Los Angeles and would consider it an honor to be considered.

Last year I appeared on a Show for the Food Network with Guy Fieri and Mark Summers as the on Camera Food Stylist. I love Food and love writing about it.

If you send me your email address I will send you pictures under separate cover.

    Thank you,

    Carol

Why should you pick me? Let me count the ways:
    1.) I am a stay-at-home mommy-blogger of five boys ages 3-11. I’m nearing desperation for some get-away time.

2.) If you want to pour wine on my keyboard you will seriously have to shove my open mouth away from it first. (Reference above explanation.)

3.) I’ve never had a Kogi taco, but I’m beginning to sense that I need one. STAT.

4.) I might just get a Julia Child tattoo if you pick me. (But then again maybe not. That one I got back when I was 18 still hasn’t washed off…)

5.) This would give me a bloody good reason to go shop for a new dress and shoes. As a mother of five boys (Did I mention I have five SONS?) I don’t get to do that often.

6.) I would commit bodily harm for a food styling how-to. If you are in law-enforcement and you are reading this entry, I am, in no legal way, serious about what I just said.

7.) If you chose me, I would be a mighty hero to my little sister, Christina, who is powerfully obsessed with your recipes and writing. And if you are in law-enforcement and you are reading THIS entry, she is, in no legal stalker-ish way, obsessed with this blog.

8.) I want to go really, really badly and I don’t clean up half bad.

    Ha! Love it.

I’m freelancing so I’m available, and I’m in SF so it’s a short flight to La-La-Land. This assignment would be awesome for so many reasons, but there’s one in particular: I really appreciated the Julie & Julia blog because I was there myself, literally clawing my eyes out because I was stuck in a rut. After falling to my knees looking for a solution to life’s woes (and my emo tendencies), a little voice out there said, “Steph! Cook something!”

So, yeah. I liked the blog and book. A lot. And I’m not a total moron.

My blog photos may not look professional but that’s because my camera is crap – the composition is OK. If you select me, I promise to run out to Best Buy, tomorrow! Oh and please don’t pour wine on my keyboard but you can pour it into my gaping maw.

What a total honor it would be to be an on the scene reporter for Steamy Kitchen! Julia was the first Chef I ever heard of and was mesmerized by as a young girl. And yeah baby, my hubby works for “Brown”, I’d overnight you some serious food!

  16. 16

    Rebecca (foodie With Family) — 7/5/09 @ 3:58 pm

…And contrary to what I just wrote, I can adhere to a word count. (She typed sheepishly.)

What an amazing offer. I think you should pick Lorna. That way she will owe me one. Also, I think she has too much time on her hands now that her manuscript is off her desk. Henry can fend for himself and Kimchee for a couple of days. (The SS above isn’t me. We are in seattle – so they can pay even more for airfare!) Lorna will look good on the red carpet too.

    Janet LaDue — 7/5/09 @ 4:00 pm

What a total honor it would be to be an on the scene reporter for Steamy Kitchen! Please, get me out of the house Jaden… I’m being held hostage by my 2 year old! And yeah baby, my hubby works for “Brown”, I’d overnight you some serious food!

    Jason — 7/5/09 @ 4:00 pm

My five spice sheet cakes with butter-cream frosting, covered with blueberries and raspberries, decorated to resemble the American flag, have fed over 100 high school students who study American history. My mother is the most popular person when she goes to work with my baked macaroni and cheese with gruyere and fontina. My grandfather loved my baked ham with orange, honey and brown sugar glaze. These are reasons why I think you should consider sending me to represent Steamy Kitchen this Thursday…plus I live in Oregon, so it will be very easy for me to get to L.A.!

  20. 20

    Rachel G. — 7/5/09 @ 4:02 pm

I’m your girl. I live in San Diego, and can drive up to LA. I’ve been baking/cooking since forever, am a graduate of the CIA and have worked in so many well established restaurants. I would be honored to be your correspondent and attend this event! You won’t be sorry!

  21. 21

    Kellye Rowland — 7/5/09 @ 4:04 pm

What a great opportunity for me! I adore Meryl Streep and have been looking forward to this movie for a while! I’m not a food blogger but I’m an actor so therefore a waiter for my entire adulthood! Want some serendipity? I opened the Oceanaire Seafood Room in Seattle with…wait for it ….BRIAN MALARKEY when he was sous chef there! I still know him so I could have more personal contact. I’m just learning to cook the past couple of years and am therefore not jaded but fresh blood! I’m also an excellent writer! What a package! Pick me!

  22. 22

    Alejandra — 7/5/09 @ 4:08 pm

In the interest of full disclosure, you should know that my belly is tingly with excitement right now and it’s *not* because I ate carrot cake for both breakfast and lunch. Some girls dream about spa weekends, but I dream about Julia Child-related movie premieres and cooking demos. For this I will happily and enthusiastically shirk all responsibility to fly across the country in your stead. I’m a magazine editor and writer with 2 years of food blogging experience, a pretty decent photographer with a sweet DSLR, and (how fortuitous is this??) JUST got myself a Flip. I have zero qualms about interviewing celebs, and will diligently document as many recipes as possible. As for those tacos? Well, no promises, but you should know that as a child I once smuggled a small pet turtle across international borders…

  23. 23

    Haley J. — 7/5/09 @ 4:13 pm

Jaden, I am available. Totally, wide-open, embarrassingly available- for blogging. Come on– I’m clever, witty, a movie buff, and I’ll make you look good. At the very least, I’ll out-Ebert Roger Ebert and write a great article for you. I’ll take mouth watering pictures and make sure that all my snacks are camera-worthy. And, I will buy not just one but two copies of your book. I’m just sayin’. I’m your girl.

  24. 24

    Nicole Aloni — 7/5/09 @ 4:15 pm

Julia was my mentor and buddy; do I have stories! That’s not to say that I ever got over the need to pinch myself when we were together. But that woman only loved one thing more than food, helping women with food careers. Like me–lucky me. Let me tell the story of this movie telling her story and I’ll do you proud. Great pix for sure (see my blog) and I’m a celeb interview pro (Mr. Puck & are like X). I’m a 2 hour flight away and your taco…guaranteed!

Pick me! Pick me! I picked up the book a year or so ago in the bargain bin at Books a Million when I was visiting Louisiana. I then went to Goodwill when I got back to Florida and bought both the cookbooks. I took one look at it, and said HELL NO! but loved the book and the audacity of someone who would decide to embark on that journey.I’ve been a freelance journalist for the last four years and have had work published. I’m totally open available and desperate to have fun this summer and this sounds like one heck of a trip! Besides, I’d be willing to smuggle you back any tacos you want. Hand delivered to your doorstep. (I live in Lakewood Ranch too!) I have had a blog since 2004 and will be launching an online magazine later this summer!

Pick me! Pick me! I’m available, in SF and have an, ahem, unique voice. See http://bit.ly/9spLN, http://bit.ly/3PWbwv and http://bit.ly/2lStbE. I’ve written reviews of food-related movies. OK, make that review and movie. Singular. See http://bit.ly/1bye77. I interviewed the director, too: http://bit.ly/EQx3X. I can do a passable Julia Child imitation. It would be a great excuse for me to buy a real camera so I could quit taking blog photos with my phone. (Nevertheless, I’m rather proud of some of the pix I’ve taken with my phone: http://bit.ly/qAjBR.) And, I’m moving to Florida so I can personally deliver that Kogi BBQ taco!

So sad that you won’t be able to make it! BUT, lucky for you, I am completely available and free to do your bidding this Thursday, with a twist of my own brand of humor and humility. I blog now and then on a personal site, I tweet quite often, I cook quite a bit, and I eat all the time. I’m located in Los Angeles, and am familiar with the Arclight and the city (what a great space). I’m really reliable and I write attention-getting and attention-keeping pieces. Thank you, from all of us, for such a great opportunity!

    nithya at hungrydesi — 7/5/09 @ 4:50 pm

Are you sure that you want to give this away? I’m a trek away in NYC but would love to sub in for you. As you can see from hungrydesi, I love food, eating and cooking so would be honored to sub in for you and learn so much more about food from attending these events. Plus, I’m Asian. You’re Asian. So it’s a pretty close replacement, no?

  32. 32

    Cheri — 7/5/09 @ 4:51 pm

I am a food blogger and a movie buff! My flip camera and I would document the event, take fun photos, schmooze with the guests and provide you an amusing post. I own many of Julia Child’s books, am a fan of Julie & Julia, dying to see the movie and am free this Thursday!

    Babeth — 7/5/09 @ 5:02 pm

God! I can just say: pick me :-) I’m a food lover and love to cook or read cookbooks but i don’t consider myself better than any others. I’m French and speak with an accent ;-)
Even though I live in Europe (nearest airport: Luxembourg) I’m trying my’s luck :-) I have a valid passport and already the internet visa waiver. I can even pay for the international difference :-)

I’m home alone, my husband is on a business trip in Rwanda and I’m not working so I’m free to go :-)
If you pick me I can fedex whatever -just need to be legal;-)- you want from LA or Europe.
Anyway I wish to the lucky winner a wonderful screening and enjoy LA delicacies :-)
(Have a margarita for me, would you?)

“Cooking with Master Chefs” and “Baking with Julia” were my must-see-TV when I became a vegetarian almost 20 years ago.

Julia was always generous with the chefs on her shows, and I was indignant on Julia’s behalf when, on one of Martha Stewart’s early holiday specials, Martha had the temerity to ask Julia, the French Chef, if she knew what “croquembouche” meant. Julia chirped, “Crunch in the mouth!” and Martha said, “Or crackle in the mouth,” as if Julia Child, of all people, hadn’t answered quite precisely enough for Martha’s standards.

I won’t eat Blanquette de Veau or Lobster Thermidor, but my photos and descriptions will make your readers want to.

(This seems very perfunctory, but I fear I’m well over 100 words!)

    Henry — 7/5/09 @ 5:06 pm

There is no better representative for you than Lorna Yee of http://www.thecookbookchronicles.com . Lorna has been a fan of Julia Child her whole life. She has read the book cover to cover multiple times and the tattered paperback has been lying on her nightstand for over a year. Not only is Lorna’s knowledge of Julia Child and the book Julie and Julia extensive, her writing skills, cooking knowledge, presence within the food blogging community, photography skills, videography skills, and personality are unmatched! And I’m not just saying this because I’m her husband. In all seriousness, I cannot think of a more perfect person to do you and your blog proud.

I currently hail from the city of brotherly love so I see myself as the underdog for this thing but what the heck. A California girl by birth, I would love to visit my homeland once again. I would tackle this exciting opportunity with a lot of energy, food geekery and a little comedy thrown in. I’ve would take tons of photos, talk to plenty of awesome people and whip out my Flip whenever possible. Whatever the outcome I look forward to reading about this event.

Oh, SteamyKitchen, how I would love to attend this series of shindigs on your behalf!

I’m a foodblogger from Tucson (so, so close to LA!) with a very well-loved and well-used copy of Julia’s The Way to Cook.

I do hereby solemnly swear to document via text, photo, video, and tweet everything that goes on with attention to detail, humor, and verve. Oh yeah, I have verve to spare – especially when I can get out of triple-digit temperatures…

    Casting my vote for Lorna!

I’m free on Thursday (and have been for the last 9 months of Thursdays), blog about food and New-Yorkish things (plus a lot of Czech food) but I live in New York and small children have been known to run, screaming, in fear from the sight of me on film. :) Bon voyage to the winner–and please capture all the sights and smells for the rest of us!

I’ve been cooking for my friends and family since I was a little girl (beginning with Tollhouse cookies sometime around 1987), so of course I’ve been a Julia fan for longer than I can remember.

But it wasn’t until I read My Life in France that I realized what an incredible life she’d had, and how brave she was to completely reinvent herself smack in the middle of it. I’m trying to do the same thing myself right now (new career, eek), and Julia is my inspiration.

    Wendy Withers — 7/5/09 @ 5:45 pm

    Hello!

I am not a food blogger, but I am a blogger. I’m also an aspiring journalist, and I’ve been trying to make my way through the world of reporting for about a year now, since I graduated from USF last May.

I am big about making my own luck in this world, and I believe being your correspondent would be a great step in my career, not to mention an adventure. I have experience taking video and audio, editing video and audio, making slideshows, and taking pictures for print and online publications. I’ve been published in the St. Pete Times, The Tampa Tribune, and Creative Loafing. (I guess in a way this makes us neighbors!) I’ve also had more than a few movie reviews published in my day.

I’m quick to make friends, outgoing, and have a quirky personality, which helps when it comes to getting people to open up.

A little about me: I grew up in a family full of cooks. My mother has been everything from a gourmet caterer to a short order cook, depending on where we lived and what job opportunities there were. My aunts are also caterers, so I definitely grew up in a foodie household. In fact, today my one-person-meals have been kosher fried chicken and vegetable wasabi fried rice, so I’m not a stranger to making the most out of ordinary fare. Even as a little girl, I knew who Julia Childs was, because her warbling voice was a staple in our household.

Here is a link to my most recent story in the Times: http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgovernment/article1014054.ece

And a link to some video I’ve done to go along with a story: http://www.wusf.usf.edu/MM_Journalism/Wendy_Withers.cfm

And, some articles that are a bit more fun: http://tampabayarts.net/ (You’ll have to click on Wendy Withers, because unfortunately I can’t find direct links to my individual posts.)

    Thank you for considering me!

“Pick me, Pick ME!” she says, squirming in her seat and waving her hand wildly.

I’m a professional freelance writer, blogger, and eZine publisher on the topics of books, art, food, film, and travel. I had just begun blogging when Julie began her challenge. When her book came out, I received a review copy and went ape over it. So funny, fun, and such a great success story for a writer. Of course, Julia Childs is embossed on the brains of all who love food, cooking, and have ever felt confounded by a recipe. I would absolutely LOVE to be your correspondent for these events and promise to come back with a great story and photos, peppered with enthusiasm and humor! A well-seasoned summary of all that transpires–

I would absolutely die at an opportunity like this. I think what would really knock me right off my rocker would be meeting Julie Powell. She is such an inspiration and I can’t wait to see how Amy Adams portrays her.

It is so generous of you to offer this to us fellow food bloggers. My fingers are crossed!

I’d love to second the vote for Rachel G., who left a brief (perhaps too brief!) message above. She’s so psyched about this opportunity (as is everyone else here, of course). On a professionaly level, she does freelance work for our agency as a food blogger and helps us writes profiles for our food clients. She’s fantastic! I always say she’s going to be the “next big thing” but she asked me not to say that, so I won’t :) That said, if you’re looking for someone lovely to represent you, she’ll make you proud. She’s definitely one of those people that everyone loves and who definitely knows her way around the kitchen…

    Okay, that’s my endorsement!

    Susan C — 7/5/09 @ 6:53 pm

I’d love to be considered for this assignment.

I live in the LA area, loved the book Julie & Julia, am a professional freelance writer (LA Times, Sunset Magazine) but use a more “fun” voice for my widely read food blog, and would have a blast doing this.

But as much as I’d love to do this, I hope that the mom of five sons gets a shot.

  58. 58

    Jane Blocker — 7/5/09 @ 7:50 pm

I truly believe that your ambassador should be Meg Blocker. She is a skillful and colorful writer, incredibly talented chef and blogger (http://queenietakesmanhattan.blogspot.com/).
In a conversation a few months back, I asked Meg a question about a basic recipie – she referred me to “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” – A book I have long owned, that she says should be the cornerstone of chef’s library. And she now has me (and her whole book club) reading Julie and Julia.
This is her love, her passion, her calling! Send her!

    Tangled Noodle — 7/5/09 @ 7:57 pm

My camera is a standard point-and-shoot and my Flip is the 1.0 version, but what I lack in technology is more than compensated by my enthusiasm for writing about food! Am I tilting at foodmills to hope that I’ll be chosen over so many incredible bloggers here who have more experience and better writing skills than me? Perhaps. But as Julia Child said, “The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking [and blogging!] you’ve got to have a what-the-hell attitude.”

  62. 62

    CookingSchoolConfidential.com — 7/5/09 @ 8:14 pm

No. No way. I can’t go. I have class. See, I’m a culinary school student and I can’t go. No way.

    I so want to go.

Okay! Put me on your list of contenders, please. Qualifications: Journalist turned culinary food student and food blogger. So I can find a story. Especially if it is about food. And picture-taker (heck, I was a film major at university – which means all the puzzle pieces are falling into place beautifully, aren’t they?!).

Desire: Big. Big enough to miss a few days of school. Big enough to suffer the wrath of my chef. That big.

Julia Child once said “I was 32 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate.”

I so get her. Because that’s my story, too.

Good luck with whomever you pick.

    Cheers!

Hi Jaden, remember me (from the October trip to Club Med Ixtapa?) I hope this note (comment?) finds you well! It seems like things are going great from you- cannot wait for your cookbook (congratulations on that!) :-)

Well, I don’t usually comment on your blog (though I visit it often!), but I had to throw my hat in the ring for this:

I would absolutely love the opportunity to be your correspondent for the Julie & Julia premiere. I know that many others (admittedly more qualified) can offer you their prodigious cooking and blogging skills, but I am utterly inspired by Julie & Julia’s stories. Both took leaps of faith to make changes in their lives – something I personally could use some advice on! I would be honored for the chance to share with your readers the recipes, reports, pictures and inspirations I am sure to find at the screening of Julie & Julia. If I win…I’ll apply to Le Cordon Bleu in Paris!

(That was 100 words exactly, btw!)

Thank you for sharing this contest with your viewers! I hope you’re well!
    -Kate

To have travel paid, go to the premiere, and to write about event sounds right up my alley. A pity that I’m in Sydney, Australia and I’m guessing you’re not covering international travel expenses!

In which case I nominate Tangled Noodle – a wonderfully perspicacious writer who will ensure the most comprehensive of reviews!

  65. 65

    Wendy — 7/5/09 @ 8:31 pm

I also nominate Meg Blocker!!! She is a fantastic writer, has a beautiful blog, is personal and passionate about food and friends. I can’t think of a better person!! I hope you send Meg!!!

What an amazing chance to talk to the woman who really paved the way for the rest of us to dream big by starting our blogs! She took on the ultimate book and the first true TV food personality when she began her journey. This is such an exciting opportunity that my husband is happy to handle my 2 crazy boys if you pick me!

I love food, I love writing, I adore movies (especially movies that involve food!). I promise not to hyper-ventilate, but to actually ask coherent questions! Would simply love the chance to be your correspondent!

  68. 68

    Melissa — 7/5/09 @ 8:54 pm

I can’t go myself (even though I’m less than an hour away, go figure), but I want to offer my support to Rebecca at Foodie with Family. She’s an excellent writer, absolutely hilarious, and as she, um, may have mentioned heh, she’s the stay at home, home schooling mother of FIVE BOYS! She could really use the time away and she would do such a marvelous, bang up job. Send her!

  69. 69

    Dania — 7/5/09 @ 9:00 pm

I would LOVE to see this movie (saw the preview @ alyssa’s) AND be a correspondent for you! I’m totally available, problem is, i’m allll the way on the total opposite side of the country…in Boston. I am a total foodie and would love this trip!… I’m going to Le Cordon Bleu in Boston, and meeting another L’CB alumni is an absolute dream (I need tips eh?!) I can take kick ass photos as my Canon rebel needs some use (otherthanmy8montholddaughter)

Wait, did I mention I LOVE food? and so does my daughter…. http://www.rhind.com/nattysign.jpg Her daddy tried to help, but no luck, I’m thinking she need more fiber in her diet because she tried to eat the sign :|

What an amazing opportunity this would be :)

    Hi!
I just finished photography school. I am a mom of two girls, and just started my own food blog. I WANT TO GO TO L.A. please. I can’t even get a job assisting a food photographer around here. So, how about giving a gal a break? Ever want to make someone’s dream come true? For one day? Start here, with me!
    Thanks for the great contest!
    Roberta

    Jeff — 7/5/09 @ 9:34 pm

I totally nominate my wife,Dania. Amazing cook, amazing chef! When she goes to cooking school, I’m in t.r.o.u.b.l.e.

I used to be skinny :( Wish I still was, but her cooking? Oy!

Sadly, she can out-do most restaurants in the Boston area, pretty bad when SHE goes to the chef! Not kidding. She also didn’t mention she had a dish named after her in Boston at 28degrees.

To be honest, and don’t tell her this…a little embarrassing to go out with her and my mother(another chef *rolls my eyes*) because they insist on talking to the head cook/chef.

Living with a foodie, not good. I don’t know how your husband does it.

  72. 72

    Don C. — 7/5/09 @ 9:43 pm

I nominate the blogger behind CookingSchoolConfidential.com. She also happens to be the managing editor of AlmostVegetarian.com and goes by @cookingstudent on Twitter.

It is on Twitter that I got to know my nominee. There, I learned that she is extremely passionate about food and dedicated to learning the culinary arts. From CookingSchoolConfidential, I learned that she is an accomplished writer, whose well practiced prose reflects that she once wrote for a living.

In fact, going to culinary school is the start of her second life. Her first: journalist, teacher, and author.

I ask you, who would be better to report back on a movie about two women who re-invent themselves, one the mother of modern American cuisine!

  73. 73

    Jeremy — 7/5/09 @ 9:49 pm

    Good luck K!!

    Miles — 7/5/09 @ 10:06 pm

I’d second the suggestion of Meg Blocker.

She is a francophile at heart and like Julia is passionate about making French ingredients and techniques accessible to those of us who are more culinarily timid. Additionally, she is an incredibly good food stylist and photographer and you can see some of her work on the blog (queenietakesmanhattan.blogspot.com)

  76. 76

    Anne — 7/5/09 @ 10:08 pm

    Why I should go:
    1. I may be the only food blogger who has NOT read the book. Therefore, fresh perspective!
    2. Years of weekend travel have made me really good at packing on a moment’s notice.
    3. I have a huge crush on Chris Messina.
    4. My original plan for Thursday: trying not to feel too bad that I just got my PhD yet will be moving in with my parents because I’m not ready for the demoralizing experience that is looking for jobs…
    5. RE #3: I promise to keep it professional and not get arrested for stalking.

  77. 77

    Joan C — 7/5/09 @ 10:11 pm

You really should choose Barbara Hahn — you won’t be disappointed! She has a nice Southern voice and would love to see the premiere, strut her stuff, meet the culinary school vips, blog new recipes, and visit in LA.

  78. 78

    carmen — 7/5/09 @ 10:17 pm

I’m going to throw my hat in the ring b/c:

I have read Julie & Julia at least eight times now. No joke. And I still laugh like crazy every time. I pre-ordered Cleaving as soon as it appeared on Amazon. I’m a huge fan of Julie Powell! I even went to juliepowell.blogspot.com and read every single post.

Inspired by the book, I recently checked out “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” from the library and have started cooking from it.

I am newly (and sadly) unemployed and as free as a bird to travel to LA for the assignment.

  79. 79

    cmcclain_nj — 7/5/09 @ 10:38 pm

I vote for GeoKaren as I am unavailable. In all seriousness she a pretty knowledge foodie and I think would do a wonderful job of covering this event.

  80. 80

    gezjames — 7/5/09 @ 10:48 pm

I nominate GeoKaren as well (http://geofooding.blogspot.com/ or @geokaren on Twitter). I have followed her blog for a while now and she is one of the more knowledgeable foodies I know (and I love her recipes). She would do a fantastic job.

  81. 81

    Andrea — 7/5/09 @ 10:50 pm

I too would like to nominate Meg Blocker. I read her blog faithfully for her informed, fun, vast, engaging commentary on the joy of food. She leaves no interesting angle unexplored…I’ve learned about cocktails, seasonal edibles, restaurants, chefs, techniques, recipes, and food travels. What’s more, she injects a strong visual appeal to her posts by including beautiful, stylish photographs that are as informative as her narrative. She’s a skilled and passionate epicurean with a natural sensibility about food that mirrors her idol, Ms. Childs. Her blog teaches me new things and makes me laugh out loud. Best of all, Meg is so down to earth, I can relate…even though I know that her knowledge of food is light years beyond mine. I know she would bring exactly what’s needed to the assignment, with characteristic charm and enthusiasm.

  82. 82

    Jenn Kraus — 7/5/09 @ 11:02 pm

I would like to recommend Rebecca Lindamood. Her cooking blog is helpful and offers great tips. http://www.foodiewithfamily.com/blog/

  83. 83

    lauren — 7/5/09 @ 11:10 pm

What the hay; I’ll throw my name in the mix.

LA means food to me, mostly because my dearest foodie friends live there. She taught me how to savor a meal and encourages unadulterated pleasure every time we sit to eat, something I associate with Julia’s outlook, as well. What’s more, my background is in film theory, so film reviews are second nature to me.

There are many well-known and respected voices nominated here, and I’m sincerely looking forward to reading whichever account is chosen to represent the Steamy Kitchen at the event.

P.S. I know how to use FedEx!

  84. 84

    Julia Iglinski — 7/5/09 @ 11:13 pm

As much as I would personally love to do this–loved Julie’s book, inhaled Julia’s show, share the first name–I graciously cede the Upstate nomination to Rebecca Lindamood and her wonderful blog, Foodie with Family (http://www.foodiewithfamily.com/blog). Excellent writing, tremendous pics, realistic recipes. And, as the mother of 5 boys, I think she’s earned a couple of days off in LA, don’t you?

  85. 85

    Carole Herson Martin — 7/5/09 @ 11:15 pm

Mais oui, ma petite chou, I am available to preview Julie/Julia on Thursday. I’ve been looking forward to viewing Mastering the Art of French Cooking come to life in the form of the classicist Julia Child and the wacky Julia Powell. The Julie/Julia Project was the first blog I ever followed; after all, it was 2002 and food blogs were not web staple that proliferates today. Julie’s misadventures with lobster steaming, interactions with butchers and offal, and especially her never-ending battles with her tiny kitchen and endless equipment malfunctions found me entertained while shaking my head in wonder. And…how did she afford the tenderloins, squab, truffles, goose, foie gras and more on her self-described poverty stricken government worker’s salary? That’s what I’m going to ask her when I see her in LA this week.

  86. 86

    Amy — 7/5/09 @ 11:18 pm

Hi, My name is Amy. I’m 23 and I just graduated from college with a degree in Spanish. I have a lot of free time right now so I’d be able to attend.
I also have a huge interest in cooking and am interested in entering the field. I have read the book Julie and Julia (it’s sitting on my bookshelf upstairs.) I think this would be a good experience for me as a cook and as a person. I do have a little point and shoot camera, but I can borrow my parents larger Nikon camera too.

  87. 87

    Roberta Boyle — 7/5/09 @ 11:20 pm

Oh no. Must withdraw myself. Good luck to all contestants! I am not as available as I thought.

  88. 88

    Kristina — 7/5/09 @ 11:30 pm

I know this isn’t a democratic situation, but if it were, I’d vote for the mom of the 5 boys. I was entertained just reading her entry! And, as a new mother to only one, not-yet-even-mobile boy, I can’t imagine how she does it and think she more than deserves a getaway!

  89. 89

    Lisa B. — 7/5/09 @ 11:38 pm

If you’re looking for high spirited, fun, funny, knowledgeable and experienced..look no further than Wasabimon’s writer Stephanie Stiavetti. She has the great ability to draw her readers in to her world, whatever the subject may be, and have you craving whatever yummy goodness has inspired her at the moment. Her photos are fabulous, her recipes creative, her personality engaging.. I can’t think of a better choice to stand in for you. NPR loves her, you will too.

  90. 90

    oysterculture — 7/5/09 @ 11:49 pm

I would love to attend the event and living in San Francisco, travel between SF and LA is easy. While a relatively new blogger, I am a long time cook and grew up watching Julia on PBS. While living in Washington DC, her kitchen in the Smithsonian, was my must stop exhibit.

I’ll get the skinny on the story and the movie much like Julia did in her spy work for the OSS.

If I do win, I may just forget that “tears (of happiness) mess up your makeup”.

  91. 91

    Lisa — 7/6/09 @ 12:03 am

Pick me, please! I would love to have a little vacation from my job as family chauffeur, head chef and dish washer emptier. I love food and if I get picked, this Jersey girl will give you a play by play trip commentary, pictures included. The only thing I cannot do is eat Poulet en Gelee `a l’Estragon but Julie didn’t like it either. You now have me craving Kogi tacos and I promise if I get to eat one, I’ll call you when it touches my tongue and I’ll describe every delicious bite! Thanks for the chance, Jaden!

  92. 92

    Karen H — 7/6/09 @ 12:04 am

Years ago, I had the pleasure of serving Julia Child and her husband one too many cocktails in a lovely little hotel I was working at in Houston. She was larger than life and a total character. I just know from that brief meeting that she would love it if my friend Barbara Hahn of Traveling Aprons was at the screening to blog about this movie. Well, that might be a stretch but what the heck, I know that Barbara would love it and would do a great job. She’s warm and sweet and a real cooking enthusiast.

  93. 93

    engis — 7/6/09 @ 12:34 am

I vote for GeoKaren (geofooding.blogspot.com; @geokaren on Twitter). Karen’s blogs and writings convey her enthusiasm and love of food in a way that is outrageously contagious. When she describes a recipe, I get hungry; I WANT to try her recipes (and I have!). When she describes a restaurant or an event that she’s visited, I feel like I’m there. Her humor is refreshing and funny! GeoKaren is a people person: friendly, outgoing and easy to talk to. If you need a personality with a passion for food who can write with fun, interest and style, choose GeoKaren.

    chef gui — 7/6/09 @ 12:39 am

Oh, smart Jaden! Who other than you can rouse such a marketing frenzy! 90 comments 24 hours after posting! Impressive.

What would be equally as impressive is to pick me, , to be your eyes and ears in LA this week. I won’t linger on my ability to do the job (i can take decent pics, videos and notes, knowledge of french food & techniques) but rather, I’d really like to go to salute Julia Child’s role in bringing French cuisine to the American household. The French owe her a lot.

So let me go. You’ll get your Fedexed tacos; I promise.

  95. 95

    Hsiao-Ching Chou — 7/6/09 @ 12:43 am

Lorna Yee should go, because she is an astute writer on top of being someone who has an enviable enthusiasm for eating and cooking. If for no other substantive reason, then go with the fact that Lorna will fit right in with all the other beautiful people in L.A.

  96. 96

    Jean — 7/6/09 @ 12:44 am

Hey Jaden! It’s just simple ol me from Columbus saying I’m available, I love food, I love Julia, I love to travel, I live to eat, and I love you (in that cool “girlfriends” kind of way.) I would do you proud!

  97. 97

    Patty K — 7/6/09 @ 12:48 am

I would love to be considered! I come from a family of restauranteurs and I am no exception to the love of food. I recently started a blog and this would be such a wonderful experience. It would be an honor to be a part of an event that celebrates the success of two passionate individuals who have profoundly impacted the culinary world. Thank you for the opportunity!

    Lucy Vaserfirer — 7/6/09 @ 1:23 am

I have a shrine to Julia Child in my kitchen, where I leave offerings of red wine and butter daily. I use heavy cream with great abandon, and I make my husband watch The French Chef episodes with me on Friday nights. I practice my warble in the bathtub. I named my dog Julia (but it would’ve been my daughter, if I had one). I once posed for a photo with Julia Child, and even as a life-size cardboard cutout, she still had more personality than most of the other people in the room.

Wow! What an awesome opportunity. I started promoting this movie as soon as I saw the preview. It would be my honor to bring an in depth coverage to this event for your site. With words, photos, recipes, and video, your readers will be sharing my seat as if they were there. Oh, and I can totally understand your Kogi taco request. Consider it done! :)

Hi, what an opportunity! I’d love to be your correspondent. You might know my food blog Barbaras Spielwiese, I write in German, but use English for business (still, it’s not mother tongue level). I studied Chinese and love Asian food, so that’s one of the reasons why I visit your blog.

I’ve booked a city tour for the weekend but would drop that trip if you chose me. As I’ve been to the US this year already I filled in the entry requirements, so if Sony pays the flight ticket from Munich or Frankfurt, I could go! :-)

  102. 102

    Mary Ann C — 7/6/09 @ 3:22 am

    Heather Stephens — 7/6/09 @ 3:57 am

If given the opportunity I would whole heartedly give it all I’ve got. I am an actress as well as a passionate cook/farmers market forager/baker/food blog reader/gardener/restaurant explorer/eater/Julia Child fan club membership card holder, and all in out, a fanatic of all things food.

Although not as qualified as some of the bloggers and food writers being considered, I do give a unique perspective, that I think very appropriate given that the event is a balance of film and food. I live in Los Angeles and New York (in LA currently) and have made my living as an actress for the last 15 years. In the last ten years my love has shifted toward food and the desire to be in the kitchen. I grew up on a semi-self sustaining farm in Maine. I have apprenticed at restaurants in both cities in my quest to learn to cook, as well as volunteered for the LA farmers markets.

Thank you for your consideration, good luck in narrowing it down!!

    Jeannie Hanson — 7/6/09 @ 4:55 am

Hi. I’m a gardener and have a garden blog. There’s a big connection between food and gardens – duh – so I’m sort of in your ballpark. I would pick me because I know what a great time I would have…the movie, the cooking demo, the stars, being the Jeannie-on-the-spot, cub reporter. Feeling important, taking videos and pictures, agonizing over what to write as your guest blogger. I’ll tell you, I would love it!
Now, there are in truth, many commenters who are closer to what you’re looking for. Witty, flippant, fun-loving food bloggers…available and ready to work it…but maybe for some strange reason you’d pick me anyway. And, wouldn’t that be cool for me. And, wouldn’t I just therefore do such a good job for you. Yes, I would.
    Jeannie

    You have found your candidate!
I am a writer/blogger whose passion about traveling, taking videos and pictures can be found at http://mvmaithai.blogspot.com. I have been published in a couple of boating magazines. The most recent was an article call “Flying Scotch and Fresh Shrimp” in the last issue of the Living Aboard magazine.

I love France, and I have always been curious about Julia’s influence on French cooking in this country. Now I know, having recently finished reading Julia Child’s book on My Life in France. So yes! I would love to have a chance to screen the movie.

If you are looking for the perfect person then Rebecca Lindamood is the one! She would do a better then perfect job and have the time of her life doing it! I look forward to reading her funny and delicious blog every chance I get and I know i’m not alone. Rebecca would be a great guest blogger for Steamy Kitchen not only because we will all be drooling over our keyboard when we see the pictures of amazing food but we will feel as if we were experiencing this first hand (ok almost, nothing is as good as the actual the food in our mouth!) Rebecca Lindamood is the right choice!! Thank you!

I am confident Barbara Hahn is you candidate:) She is one of the most wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Her kindness, spirit and love for people and “cooking” has inspired everyone she has met; including me. Her kindness for people and animals is just amazing, she has adopted 5 Dachshunds and several other animals that need rescuing….her heart is huge. Her love of cooking and sharing that love with all of her family and friends has made her even more special. What southern hospitality is…..Barbara Hahn! We love you Barbara and look forward to your trip to LA:)

    Hi Jaden,
I would love the opportunity to be a “Steamy Kitchen correspondent” for the J&J premiere – I am a huge fan of your blog (I tested recipes for your cookbook!) and think I have a pretty good sense of the kind of writing/reporting you’d be interested in for this project. I am not a professional writer, photographer or chef, but I am deeply passionate about food and cooking, love taking pictures, and have a ton of energy and enthusiasm, especially when it comes to traveling and meeting new people. Thanks for your consideration!

Am I dreaming? What a fantastic trip that would be. I have the weird Deja Vu kind of feeling that I will be going. What is that called beside wishful thinking?(I’m packing as we speak).
I grew into a foodie with two women: Julia Child and the Quebec doyenne of food, Mme Jehanne Benoit. These two women were my bedside reading as a young bride in the 60′s. They are responsible for all my cooking knowledge and experience. A few years ago when I read Julia’s biography in my winter hideaway (where the food is also fantastic I might add) San Miguel De Allende,Mexcio, I felt like I already knew her and would ahveloved to have cooked with her.
SO, put your hand into the large ” Casserole” that you will put these letters in and pull out my name. I will bring some Kogi BBQ taco for you( What are they, exactly?) and may also spring for a
” feed” of Prince Edward Island Lobster and maybe a few Malpeques.
    Love your blog,
    Helen in PEI, Canada

    3. I’m available. No job = open schedule.

Fun’s my middle name. Actually, it’s not but I needed to catch your eye! I would be honored and humbled if you chose me. As a kid, I’d watch Julia’s shows and they helped shape me into the hardcore foodie I am today. (Like any good ABC, I also give props to my parents and our family’s carry-out). My friends gave me the book when I was in culinary school and I would love the chance to report on the screening for you. And hells to the yes, being on your blog would be a major SCORE! Thank you!

Oh Miss Jaden, I would stinkin’ adore this. In fact I wrote on my blog about how excited I am about this movie a while back. I spent our summer vacation reading the book. Now for the begging part. Please, please, please.

And now for the sad part. (True story, but hoping it gets some sympathy points) I was diagnosed this year with Polyglandular Autoimmune Disease. It has rocked my world and changed my eating in ways I never imagined possible. I’ve had to pull out all the stops on making creative dishes to fit into my new culinary lifestyle. This would be a fun adventure to help give me some more creative inspiration.

FYI, I am a professional photog and food blogger trying to eek into food writing. I have cameras and am ready to travel! Also have one of those cool flip cameras for red carpet videos. I have no idea how many words this is, I’m much better at food photography than counting words! Pick me!

    Laura Lindekugel — 7/6/09 @ 11:58 am

In many ways, Julia Child is responsible for my life in food. I was six when I stumbled on “The French Chef” and was transfixed. She transported me from my world of Wonder bread and Twinkies to a place of culinary poetry. It took me more than two years to write quickly enough to have a full recipe—I didn’t know that cookbooks existed—but the next morning, I got up at 5:00 to make a cheese souffle. What has followed is a life centered around food (and photography, my other passion). I have read every book about Julia Child, including Julie Powell’s book, and would love to be your correspondent for this event.

I’m the perfect person because I LOVE all things food. (My husband and I have been leading the local food movement charge with Suncoast Food Alliance.) I am a huge movie buff (ridiculously good at six degrees of Kevin Bacon). I take freakishly copious notes. I’m a great writer, have a funny p.o.v., am technologically astute, and give good voice (develop eLearning for a living). I would not get all lost in the glamour of Hollywood (you wouldn’t find me six months later on Sunset waiting for my big break…). Seriously, it would be an honor to represent you!

Alejandra from http://www.alwaysorderdessert.com is THE perfect choice for this…

I saw an advanced screening of Julie & Julia last week in NYC and the next day I told my best friend that Julie reminds me so much of Alejandra. I would like to recommend that you send the Tucson Food Dude (Kevin) to be your correspondent in Los Angeles for the screening of the Julie and Julia Movie!!

Top five reasons the Tucson Food Dude would be a fantastic correspondent:

    Hi Jaden,

Thanks so much for this amazing opportunity! I think it’s awesome for you to offer this to all your blogging peeps who could use a little push to cover a major gig like Julie & Julia and play with the big bloggers! So, here goes with my pitch…..

“My life as a food blogger addicted to late night food porn will ultimately ruin my marriage. I sit for hours staring into the screen, stumbling food blogs like a Vegas slot machine, well past the hour sane people go to bed. My husband knows his meals will be served cold after I take photos and goes to bed without me. I need counseling. Ahhh, who am I kidding? What I really need is THE big break to be your correspondent so I can get my fix writing for you. I promise I’ll get therapy, after I get back!”

Top Five Reasons Why I Should Go to LA for Julie and Julia:

    5. Flexible. I’m a teacher and have the summers ‘off’! My bags are packed!
    4. I’m from LA – and could work in a sneak visit with family.
    3. I’m not a professional food blogger…this could really give a unique perspective to all of your readers, like me, who enjoy your blog.
    2. As a teacher, I’m a lifelong learner and learning more about cooking and techniques would be a wonderful learning experience and then sharing it with you and your readers would be a great teaching experience.
And the number one reason why I should go to LA for the movie screening……..
I love eating and cooking food !!

  156. 156

    Lorraine Goldberg — 7/6/09 @ 12:34 pm

I’d like to nominate Lorna Yee, she’s well versed in various mediums- food, fashion (she is always perfect dressed), photography and the media. Lorna has great attention to detail as exhibited in her cooking, she used to run an underground restaurant club that honestly that was awesome. She’s also a contributing writer for Seattle Magazine, our guide to what’s happening in food, culture & style in Seattle. Most of all, her blog http://www.thecookbookchronicles.com/blog/ speaks for itself. Lorna is your ideal candidate!

When I want something really bad, (like this gig as your guest blogger!) I have to stop and ask myself WWJD* and consult my Bible.**

I began to imagine how Julia herself would pick a representative to attend this historic event. With her stealth CIA training, my experience as a food blogger and award-winning cook would reveal itself. She would value my photography and video skills. In the end, Julia would most appreciate my lighthearted humor and know that I share her boundless passion for food and fun!

Hi Jaden! I can’t go ;-( but would like to throw my support to a very very dear friend of mine, SarahMC. She’s a phenomenal all-around person and would bring a bit of sincerity to the schmooze-fest part of Hollywood, and she also has plenty of fancy dresses from her career as a professional cellist. Sarah had a stressful and busy spring preparing for the MCAT and writing med school apps, but a few of the things that helped her maintain her sanity were cooking, reading foodie books, and catching up on food blogs. She’s currently training to climb Kilimanjaro at the end of the month (http://firstclimb.typepad.com/), and a little side trip to CA might be exactly what she needs to rejuvenate before her final training push.

Sarah is a sweet and fun person who is very unassuming, but she’s also a Harvard- and Juilliard-educated foodie-cellist-future-doctor who throws herself 200% into everything she does. If you pick her to go to the premiere, I can guarantee that she will get everything possible out of the experience, and her wrap-up blog post will be something special.

Hope I’m not too late to add my name!

Julie & Julia is the book that inspired ME to start cooking (and blogging). I’d just separated from my husband and was living alone for the first time in 13 years. I was reading Powell’s book and was so inspired by her. Without cable or Internet at home, I started cooking at least one new recipe each week. Since then, I got a part-time job teaching cooking classes at a small cooking school in St. Louis. I’ve also gotten into the foodie/blogger world more, locally and nationally (I’m attending the BlogHer in Chicago later this month). Cooking is my passion, my therapy, my tool for living the good life.

I’d LOVE to go on this trip!

    Hi Jaden.

What an awesome opp and I’d love to take you up on it if possible. I am free on Thursday and would offer a unique point of view (which may or may not appeal to people). I think I’m funny, and some people do as well. I just got back from Panama with over 1000 frames, met with a bunch of chefs and ate at almost every kosher restaurant in Panama City, in the 4 days before I headed out to the islands (Bocas del Toro). As a new blogger, I really like what a chef said to me in Panama — food is less about tasting and more about learning…so I would take this opportunity to further my education. I also have friends in LA who could probably help out with videos as necessary.

    Good luck to everyone!

    Best,

    Gayle

    Why you should pick me:

I’m stealthy. So stealthy in fact you can’t even see what I typed between list sentence and the one before it. The space appears blank.

I have so many cameras that even if professionally frisked, I will get at least two cameras through so I can shoot even the intimate of shots.

My wife knows that if Meryl Streep hits up on me, the answer is yes.

    I’m already packed.

I sit quietly in most plane seats; most.

I’ve written six computer books and that give me no edge on the others applying to go.

I was an ACF certified sous chef. I set my expectations lower and undramatically achieved them.

My food blog has much fewer readers than yours does and if I get to go, it will always have fewer readers than yours. I swear it.

I’ve stolen every bit of this information from others attempting to win contents although they’ve never won. By doing so, I’m attempting to right the wrongs of the universe. It’s unlikely that will be the case.

    I wish myself luck.

I have access to a corporate FedEx account.

    Gary

My I “frame” my Julia memories by helping you, Jaden? I’m one of hundreds to share Julia’s camaraderie in IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals). Our first 1:1 chat wasn’t culinary, but in a hotel bar at midnight, divulging our mutual mastectomies, prior to pink ribbons.
Fast forward to phoning to arrange a “walk-through” of her Cambridge house before a video interview. Spontaneously, I asked, “Could I bring lunch?” Julia’s hearty reply, “That would be lovely” brought an adrenaline rush, then panic. What does an Iowa farm girl turned “foodie” bring on a pre-dawn, 400-mile flight to serve in Julia’s kitchen?
The answer? After I complete my hoped-for assignment in LA!

I’ve known Alejandra over at http://www.alwaysorderdessert.com for a long while, and there is one magnificent thing about her that shines through: her passion for making magic and excitement in her cooking. I’ve had the pleasure to taste, hear about and read of her numerous epicurean masterpieces.

She’s your ideal candidate for this opportunity. Just perfect.

    Kristina Vanni's Mom, Debbie — 7/6/09 @ 1:42 pm

I would like to add support for Kristina Vanni to be considered for this honor. Hanging in Kristina Vanni’s Los Angeles kitchen is a framed letter to her from Julia Child herself. Kristina has been cooking since she was 8 years old, but in addition to that, she was a national award-winning ventriloquist in her youth. Because of her love for everything Julia, she had a puppet custom-made in Julia’s likeness. Word of this puppet got back to Julia Child. Julia wrote Kristina a wonderful letter about the puppet and the letter is framed and still hangs in Kristina’s kitchen. Kristina has won numerous cooking competitions over the years. She recently has been chosen to compete in the National Beef Cook-Off in September, an event in which Julia was once a judge. In addition to her blog, Kristina has had extensive experience in front of a camera, has made food commercials, not to mention a lifelong love of everything Juila. Being her mother, I know I am a little prejudiced, but I cannot imagine anyone more suited for this, and who would love it more, than Kristina!

I’m writing in support of my mom, Laura Lindekugel. She is a brilliant writer, funny (although not always intentionally), passionate, devoted, and the most amazing person I have ever known. For the last 18 years she has, for the usually tiny audience of our family, whipped up meals a la Thomas Keller. She does things like making an eight-course aphrodisiac dinner for Valentine’s Day, or whipping up 18 desserts for a tasting, or digging a pit to roast a whole goat. Did I mention passionate? She is also a wonderful photographer. When I head off to Wellesley in the fall she is starting a food blog of her own. She would be an amazing correspondent for you and she so deserves this opportunity. Please choose her!

I agree that Megan Blocker would be a great choice. She has an infectious enthusiasm and an entertaining writing style.

Plus, I know she would relate the entire experience of being there, which is what we foodies really want, to be there vicariously.

As an illustrative example, a few months ago she described a restaurant experience to a large group of IT folks (as an analogy to the end-to-end ‘user’ experience) and it captivated everyone in the room – they’re still talking about it!

In sum, she’s the right (intrepid) guest blogger for the job.

Look no further, I’m your gal. Love to cook, love to eat, love to share and nothing turns me on more than doing it all well. Taking pictures will be a labor of love, but don’t worry I can do it. Just finished volunteering my cooking skills for 3 months at Family Services of Greater Vancouver. Now looking for something new and interesting to do…guest blogger stint at Steamy Kitchen fits the bill. My bags are packed and I’m ready to go.

My sister has told me that I need to post here. But here’s the deal. Our mom, Laura Lindekugel, really would be perfect for this. She loves Julia Child. So much that our family celebrates her birthday every year on August 15th with a huge dinner. She has a bust of Julia Child in our dining room. And she is a great writer and very adventurous. When we lived in Japan, she was crazy enough to get a part on a Japanese television show and was in many hilarious commercials. Besides taking care of Sophia and me and our dad, food and cooking and reading cookbooks and writing and taking pictures are her life. I know she would be thrilled to do this.

Kristina Vanni is truly amazing – a wonderful cook herself, and no one reveres Julia Child more. She has been cooking since she was little more than a toddler and has grown into a gorgeous young woman who loves food in all its guises. Her talents are multi-faceted yet she’s still grounded and sincere. She’s the one!

Jaden, I love your blog. And, I have to say that I agree that Meghan Blocker or Alejandra Ramos would be my top two candidates. Their blogs are the best. I am constantly alternating between the two for recipes. And on top of that, they write like they’re paid to.

All things being equal, I would think that Alejandra would be the better choice since she’s not from L.A. She’d give the article an extra level of enthusiasm and excitement.

My friend Stephanie Stiavetti is a food writer (for several magazines), blogger (www.wasabimon.com) and coming into her own in the kitchen! She has the unique and fresh perspective of someone with both a dairy and gluten allergy and can see and taste things most people simply can’t! Plus, she’s a young and hip tech-geek…she’s everything that doesn’t currently exist in the mainstream food world (in my opinion). And if that’s not enough, she can work a room full of schmoozers with both hands tied behind her back! Believe me, if you pick her, you’ll be in for a very pleasant surprise! =0)

I would love to have the opportunity to represent you at the screening. I am not a professional writer — yet. While I have blogged on and off for over a year, it is only recently that I have committed to resurrecting a writing career that I abandoned years ago in favor of practicing law, teaching, and working in clerical positions. Julie Powell is an inspiration to me, and her story has helped motivate me to re-connect with my passion for writing. (My review of Julie & Julia for Suite101.com won an Editor’s Choice Award there: http:// bit.ly/Ce5u7.)

If chosen, I would definitely take off work to come, partially because it would mean so much to me, and partially because I could not stand the pain of being cut off from the world if you came and poured wine on my keyboard! Dear Ms. McSteamy,

Gary Novosel was born for this job! Not only does he know a TON about food, he is a fabulous writer and totally fun (just like you)! I’d bet our firstborn he’ll do you proud!!

If you want to meet Gary via video, check out his stint on the show “Jayni’s Kitchen”. His personality definitely comes through in this piece. http://www.foodmedic.com/?p=1075

Example of Gary’s “funness” – This weekend my son and 5 of his LSU buds came to visit us in Austin. They challenged Gary to do an episode of “Chopped”. Gary gave the kids his credit card and off they went to gather the secret ingredients. Being boys, they focused on protein, lots of protein. …leg of lamb, duck, a huge hunk of tuna, and scallops. Even though Gary was being timed, teased, abused, and cooking for 8, he pulled it off beautifully!

If you pick my guy I will personally massage your feet for a month. Seriously, I can’t think of anyone more deserving than Gary (First responder who rescued and fed Katrina victims, feeds the homeless, and volunteers his cooking services for good causes.)

Thank you so much for considering! :-)

I used to live in California, and to be able to return there reveling in my passion of food blogging, and get the star treatment would be a gift beyond words.

I can relate to Julie in that food blogging brought me back to life. When I moved to Tennessee and went on my first grocery store trip, I had to tell the check-out gal what each produce was. I left the store, and cried, feeling that I left food culture behind in California.

I would love to go. Cleared schedule.

    I nominate Alejandra Ramos!!

I was Alejandra’s room mate in Florence, Italy while we were in Culinary School. Not only did I get to see Alejandra’s fantastic and natural ability to cook but I also witnessed her talent for writing along with her passion for the two. She is a perfect candidate for this assignment and it would be truly a shame if she were bypassed for this opportunity.

Thanks for taking the time to consider my nominee.

    Sincerely,
    Susanne Dillingham

Please choose Gary Novosel, Austin, TX, to go to LA to blog for you. He has an excellent website that caters to people with medical dietary needs and he has helped many. I am in France now and plan to bring back to him many special ingredients, including truffles,to further compliment his many wonderful recipes. Gary is super generous, cooking for others, ill or healthy, and sharing his ideas and hints. He grows most of his vegetables himself, which is quite a feat to be done in Austin! Choose Gary, you won’t be disappointed!

I adore Julia Child. Her passion, perfectionism and love of hot dogs speak to me. I have a quote by Julia hung on the wall at my bakery. Through it, I’ve experienced Julia’s broad appeal everyday.

I identify with Julie. I too have laid it all on the line to chase the dream. Will it be worth it? Who knows as my story is still being written. I would love to include this experience as a chapter in my story. To that end, I will care for it with wit, enthusiasm, and conviction.

I believe that Gary Novosel, is the one to be cast for this part! His own story is a Cinderella…well, in this case a Cinder-Fella Story that is begging to be completed with the glass Chef’s knife! He is a great friend who has shared some kitchen time with my husband and I many times and we are always impressed and excited. He has a vast repetoire of roles that include:
Asst. Pit Boss/Beef Carver at the St. Mark’s 50th Annual BBQ, Rode Side Saddle on the Meals and Wheels to help victims in New Orleans, has been the Head Chef at a couple of Austin, TX original restaurants, and currently has his own web site dedicated to healing foods and recipes which has led him to other foodie shows as as guest host. His other talent is Talking!!! This guy is a great storyteller…like any good Texan – he can tell some tales. He about puts our own O.Henry to shame!!! You gotta love him! He is all about food and people…so, come on…Gary IS the part…give Him the opportunity to make you proud! He won’t dissapoint.

What better story that of a girl that by the age of 8 had already read all the books in her grammar school library. We had to go to the nearby library to get more books for this beautiful curious curly dark hair and big dark eyes., so that she could read during her free time period. Even though the “In girls” made fun of her, she never lost her koy for living and her sense of humor and she grew to become an adorable, sweet, and very passionate young woman.

Yes. I nominate Ms. Alejandra. Please choose her.
visit her blog at: always order dessert

My request is for Angela at Spinach Tiger (www.Spinachtiger.com) who is an absolute foodie, loves cooking and embracing new ideas as well as old ones, is passionate about her Italian heritage and the cuisine of her country (much as Julia was passionate about the French cuisine). Angela recently started a blog along so that others could join her in cooking and learning about Italian food/culture, etc. She is extremely giving to those around her. Recently her husband lost his job in a scale back with the computer company he worked for during the past 13 years, so their 10th wedding anniversary to Italy had to be cancelled. I think it would be great if Angela got to go on this trip. Please check out her site and enjoy the gorgeous food and photos!

GARY NOVOSEL from Austin, Texas is your guy. Gary’s extensive knowledge of food and superb cooking abilities, along with his wit and charm are unbeatable. Hi! I suggest picking THIS person!

    Stephanie Stiavetti
    Feature Writer, Copywriter, Copy Editor
    Writing: http://www.stephaniestiavetti.com
    Food blog: http://www.wasabimon.com
    Twitter: http://twitter.com/sstiavetti
    Email: steph@hyperreal.org

Why? Because she’s the smartest, whip-crackiest, darn-tootin’est, word slinger this side of Asian fusion! Her food blog has actually caused me to salivate on several occasions and chuckle on several occasions more. As a gluten-free, nearly vegetarian, aware consumer of food, I truly appreciate Steph’s intelligence, candor, and creativity in all areas of the digestive arts, and I often seek her advice on ingredients, procedures, and recipes. AND, she takes killer photographs(I heard she actually hired HERSELF as the photographer of her own wedding!)(Not really…but she could have!).
