Cuisinart 3-in-1 Stainless Gas Grill Review & Giveaway
After a solid week of every day cooking, this is our review of the Cuisinart 3-in-1 Stainless 5-Burner Gas Grill (model GAS9556AS).
The Cuisinart grill came unassembled, so it took about 20 minutes with basic tools to assemble.
PRO: It came together easily, and solidly. The parts are sturdy and solid. No wobbling after assembly (I’ve had that issue with other self-assembly grills).
It’s a handsome medium sized grill, 55″ wide with 435 square inches of cooking area. There are 5 burners.
CON: It doesn’t come with a grill cover, we had to purchase that separately via Amazon (We bought this one for $24 and it fit perfectly.)
PRO: A workspace table and hooks for towels and tools. However, you’ll have to loop string through the end of your tools in order to hook. The hook is knobby and thick, too big and too short to hang most BBQ tools.
PRO: I love that it comes with cast iron grates for better, more even cooking. Other grills twice as expensive only come with standard stainless grates (and you have to buy the cast iron separately, which is very pricey). I rubbed a bit of oil on the grates to season before first cook.
Throughout our test, we grilled steaks, chicken kabobs and smoked some chicken.
PRO: The window in front allows you to monitor your cooking progress without opening the lid. This is a big plus – every time you open the lid, you lose heat. The window is appliance-grade, so heat loss is minimal (similar to your oven).
PRO: A griddle comes included with the Cuisinart 3-in-1 Gas Grill (it stores by hanging on the left side of grill, under the work table). We use this to cook hashbrowns, bacon, burgers.
CON: The griddle sits up a little too high, and it took a long time to heat up.
PRO: We love having an extra cooking burner on the side. It kept our kitchen cool by doing all the cooking outside.
PRO: The Cuisinart 3-in-1 Gas Grill heats evenly left to right. The grill pre-heats very quickly and maintains a steady temperature. Food cooked evenly in direct and indirect cooking.
CON: I’m not a fan of how the grill ignites. You push and slightly turn a knob…wait for 3-5 seconds (while the propane gas releases), than turn the knob a little further to ignite. It took me a bit to get used to the right timing.
PRO: The Cuisinart 3-in-1 Gas Grill comes with a smoker tube (which stores by hanging under the burner). We soaked wood ch9ps for 20 minutes then filled the tube.
Lift up the grill grate and insert the tube. Simple.
After a few minutes, the wood chips will start smoking.
Let’s smoke some chicken!
PRO: I can’t tell you how much I love having the viewing window. I’m a control freak when it comes to cooking and I need to see what’s going on with my food!
We smoked the chicken at 275F for about 2 hours, then cranked up the heat to crisp up the skin.
PRO: Having the smoker integrated with a grill allows you to smoke low ‘n slow…and then jack up the fire to finish cooking. The result was a beautifully smoked bird.
Super moist. Perfect.
CON: There’s a lot of open space in the back of the grill. I felt like a lot of the smoke escaped through the back.
PRO: Consumer Reports rated this Cuisinart 3-in-1 Gas Grill high (you’ll have to be a member to access their review). Overall, this is an excellent mid-sized grill that includes a griddle, a smoking tube and an outside burner. It’s a great deal for $349 (see Cuisinart’s website for list of retailers). All the accessories store neatly. The grill construction materials are high quality. Add a $24 weatherproof grill cover and you’re all set.
