Arlo Pro 2 Review & Giveaway
This is a review of the Arlo Pro 2 with both PROs and CONs. -jaden
I recently sold the home that I’ve lived in for the past 4 years….there were a few things the new buyers wanted us to leave with our house, and our Arlo security system was one of them.
When I bought a new home, one of the first things I purchased was an Arlo system. There was a sale and bundle at Costco for one of the latest Arlo camera systems, the Arlo Pro 2.
Wire-free security cameras
PRO: There are no wires to hide! Each camera comes with 2 different types of mounts – the screw-in, more secure type of mount, and a smaller mount that attaches with a strong magnet.
CON: It’s easy to steal the cameras. There’s no alarm on the camera itself. The base unit I got with my bundle does NOT have a built in audible alarm. If you need one, you’ll have to make sure the base unit supports it.
PRO: The cameras are both indoor and outdoor cameras. Works between 32F-114F. So, if you have snot-freezing weather, it won’t work.
CON: Battery life is just so-so. Battery life depends on how much you use for recording, and how much motion it is detecting.
I’ve had my camera for 2 weeks now, and I’m at 85% battery life.
PRO: The batteries are simple to remove and charge.
CON: But, my camera in the backyard is up really high, which means I need to bust out the ladder to reach.
PRO: The app is simple to use for video playback. There are push notifications, so you’re alerted each time unexpected movement is detected.
CON: It’s confusing to program! The app only allows you one mode. So you can program the Arlo to activate once you leave the area (geofencing) — or — based on a schedule, like if you leave for work every weekday from 8-4pm. You can do both.
For example, I wanted to use geofencing (automatically arm when I leave the house) AND automatically arm at bedtime. Nope. It can’t do that.
PRO: Installation was super easy. I did it myself with a drill, wall anchors and a screwdriver. I have one camera at my front door….
….and one at my back door.
PRO: With the app, I can see what’s going on in the backyard and front yard really easily. I actually have one more camera, I haven’t installed that one yet, not sure where to put it. Maybe on my driveway or in my garage?
PRO: It comes with 7 days of free cloud storage. I don’t anticipate needing to store video any longer than that. So, it’s nice to not have an ongoing monthly expense.
PRO: Works with Amazon Alexa/Echo Show/Fire TV/Google Assistant.
