Oregon Scientific Grill-Right Bluetooth BBQ Thermometer Review
We’ve been testing quite a few bluetooth connected thermometers this month! This Oregon Scientific thermometer (model AW133) is designed for the BBQ. What I love about this unit is that the number readout is LARGE! The app’s display features large numbers too, good for those who have trouble seeing small digital readouts.
If you don’t have a smartphone, you can still use the thermometer. Handy when you don’t want to bother with the connection or when your phone is too far from the unit for the bluetooth to register.
The measurements are accurate, the app is easy to use with minimal distractions. You can use the app in 3 ways: a countdown timer, based on a meat profile or recipe, or based on desired temperature. Recipes are included – as it features AllRecipes.com recipes. I do like that the display is color coded – yellow/orange/red based on cooking status. Another feature that I love is that the display on the unit and the app shows the % done. So, when it says 80% done, I know that it’s time to start setting the table and getting the rest of the dinner ready.
The unit only comes with 1 probe – you can only measure one item at a time (You can order a second probe separately.) Other thermometers come with 2 probes, so that you can measure 2 different foods (like chicken and steak) or measure temperature of the BBQ (did you run out of propane or your charcoal died?) as well as your food.
The unit runs on 2 AA batteries (included). The price is $47.34.
