Sonos Play Giveaway

For the past 6 months, I’ve been testing out the Sonos Home Sound System, in both an apartment setting and large home setting. I’m giving a Sonos Play:1 smart speaker away! Below is information on the system and my review and comments (in red) – jaden

Sonos Play: 1 Giveaway

What is Sonos?

  • Small yet powerful speaker for streaming music and more. Get rich, room filling sound with Play:1, and control it with the Sonos app
  • The compact design fits just about any space. Put it on your kitchen countertop or tuck it away on your office bookshelf
  • Go from unboxing to listening in minutes with just one cord and step by step guidance in the Sonos app
  • Pair two Play:1s in the same room for stereo separation and more detailed sound
  • Easily connect Sonos speakers in different rooms over WiFi to create a home sound system that brings every room and everyone together

What I was looking for: An affordable system that I could easily install myself with beautiful, rich sound. I wanted something that I could easily move from house to apartment to new house, and something that could play streaming music, since I have Amazon music, Spotify and YouTube Music.

Why I chose Sonos: It was on sale at Costco! LOL! Well, that’s what caught my eye at first. I briefly read the reviews online and decided to try it out with a Sonos Play:1 two speaker pack.

In the apartment with just standard wifi and cable internet service, the set up was really simple. Follow the directions on the app that you download.

In my home, it was more complicated. I have a two story house with a large yard, and also two teenage boys who play hardcore online games that use up a lot of bandwidth. I installed the Orbi mesh wifi system (I’ll review this later). Because of the Orbi, I had a lot of trouble installing the Sonos without calling Orbi customer support. I’m still not 100% installed (limitations on the Sonos not being able to handle the Orbi’s automatic assigning of channels). I haven’t yet contacted Sonos support, but after extensive reading online, it’s a common problem.

If you have a simple, standard wifi installed in your home, it really is just plug and play. You can install the system in 15 minutes.

In my apartment, I had a speaker in my bedroom, and another in the family room.  In my new home, I now have 4 speakers – Patio, Kitchen, Master Bedroom and Office.

I love having a whole-home sound system that I can control with my app.

I haven’t used this stereo sound feature yet, but if you have a home theatre system, you can use a pair of Sonos speakers as a great addition.

My favorite feature of the Sonos Play:1 is that I don’t need to tie up my phone to play music. I have several bluetooth speakers…and everytime my phone rings, or I get a text message, it comes across the bluetooth speaker. It’s super annoying, especially when you have guests over and everyone is enjoying the music…and all of the sudden, you get a phone call!

My recommendation: To take advantage of the price and capabilities of the Sonos system, have at least 2 or more rooms you want to have music in. If you’re just looking for a simple speaker for the kitchen, buy something cheaper (this Oontz speaker is #1 best selling bluetooth speaker on Amazon selling for $26). If you’re looking for amazing sound for multiple rooms and the ability to play music without tying up your phone, the Sonos is a great system.

Oh, it also connects with Alexa, but honestly, I don’t use any smart assistants that is always on and is listening!
