Happy Wednesday! Hope you had a nice weekend! We had insanely beautiful weather here in Vegas over the weekend and I am soaking up these perfect temperatures before it gets too hot!

Desert problems.. ha! 🌵

You MAY not know it, but MAY is also Mental Health Awareness Month. A great time to have conversations about mental health, check in with our loved ones and prioritize ourselves and our well-being!

I have recently been putting a bit more attention to keeping the mind as healthy as the body. Sometimes with our busy lives, our mental health falls on the back burner as we prioritize others and our “obligations”.

I wanted to share with you some things that I have been incorporating that have really shifted my days, and helped with decreasing overwhelm.

1. Gratitude – Let’s face it, as our days go by, sometimes we lose focus on the little things in our lives that we are grateful for.

Our homes, our family, our health. We easily take things for granted if we don’t take time to practice gratitude.

A simple way to shift your entire perspective (especially if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today) is to take 2 minutes and write out or acknowledge 5 things you are grateful for.

Big or small.

What I’ve learned is that the more you focus on what you love in your life, the positive aspects, the more of that you attract.

I know I’ve had days where I focus on the things going wrong and what happens? The more things go wrong!

Gratitude is simple and leading with a thankful heart will make sure your day improves!

2. Write It Out – Sometimes, we need to unpack. The thoughts, the To-Do’s, all that information in our brains needs an outlet!

Journalling isn’t for everyone, however I found it to be incredibly helpful to slow down the mind, organize the thoughts and see it all out on paper.

I like to do something called a “Brain Dump” where I allow myself to write out 3 pages of conscious writing , letting all the ideas, thoughts, feelings flow out.

If we keep everything inside, the more it can fluster ourselves, our brains and our nervous systems!

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, journaling might be an excellent way to unpack!

3. Meditation – I’ll be real. I have a hard time sitting still! Meditation always seemed so boring and I would think of all the things I could be doing instead of just.. sitting there!

However, as time has gone on, I really see the value in sitting down, in peace, tuning in, and allowing myself to actually take some time to slow down!

To all the beginners to the meditation thing, I highly recommend using an app or a guided meditation to help guide you! Starting small with 3-5 minutes is an excellent start!

I personally love the app – Insight Timer that have excellent meditations and audios to listen to!

Slowing down while cooking has always been meditative and relaxing for me as well!

Find what works for you.

Remember, when you focus on the good, the good gets better!

Also remember- that we are still living in a very weird time – and it is okay to not always be okay! The more we talk about how we are feeling and acknowledge / access support the better!

As we are in full fledged Spring, all that I am craving is fresh meals with lots of greens, citrus and veggies!

This week I will be grilling , making lots of salads and of course, fresh Buddha Bowls!

For this week’s tip – let’s talk about those bitter greens!

Bitter greens like kale and arugula can be soaked in a bowl of ice water in the fridge for up to one house! Then run the greens through a salad spinner to get them crispy and dry. This will help tone down the bitterness and be ready for a delicious well balanced salad!

Do you have a special tip for bitter greens? If so – share it in our Happy Healthy Facebook Group or email it in! We will highlight your tips on Friday!

Enjoy your week and stay in a place of gratitude as much as you can!

With love,
Jaden
