Maverick Pro Temp PT 100 Thermometer Review
As professional recipe developers and testers, we rely on accurate temperature readings every step of the cooking process.
That being said, we’re extremely picky with the thermometer that we use in the kitchen. An inaccurate or slow reading is frustrating.
PRO: At first glance, we fell in love with how rugged the Maverick Pro Temp Thermometer looked. It was designed for a commercial kitchen, so it needed to stand up to the chaos and frequent use in a restaurant. The rubberized grip means it won’t slip out of my damp, buttery or saucy hands. Big enough for getting a good grasp even with a clumsy oven mitt.
Very large and bright display reading means I don’t squint when reading the temperature.
Open the probe and the thermometer turns on automatically, with a backlight.
Water resistant – I can accidentally splash it with water or sauce and just wipes off clean.
Accurate – NSF approval, guaranteed performance and accuracy to NIST standards.
One of my favorite features – recommended cooking chart for different meats printed directly on the thermometer. (I’m not sure why the thermometer photos above, taken from Maverick’s website show a different chart).
CONS: I wish the probe wouldn’t swivel out so easily. I feel like it needs to “click” and latch closed. I’m always afraid that I’m going to poke myself with the probe! It’s not a deal breaker, but something to be mindful about. On my wishlist for this thermometer: I wish that the readout would auto-rotate based on direction. Sometimes, to hit the right spot in the meat, the display becomes upside down!
MSRP is $99.99, but Amazon sells it for about half that price.
